The best way to see the Spanish island of Menorca and particularly Mahon is by foot, and as you wander through the city’s labyrinth of streets, you will discover stunning architecture, beautiful churches as well as finding plenty of things to do in Mahon from visiting museums, shopping in its boutiques and strolling round its many markets. Mahón’s indoor market has an interesting array of shops and stalls, and during the summer musical performances are held. Next to this is the Mercat de Peix (fish market), sells a wonderful selection of fresh fish and local products, including wonderful cheese and plump olives. At the other end of the town is the Plaza Esplanada, where there is a craft market every Tuesday and Saturday. The park of Es Freginal also has fabulous cultural events, including 'Jazz in Maó,' which takes place every summer, meaning Mahon holidays are full of creative and entertaining things to see and do.
If you follow the winding staircase and road of Ses Voltes, you will arrive at the finest natural harbour in the Mediterranean, if not the world. The port stretches for 5 km and is the second-deepest natural port in the world. The esplanade along the waterfront invites you to stroll along and discover where an endless variety of quality boutiques, galleries, shops, bars, and restaurants are located, making it a perfect location for your Menorca rental accommodation. Because Mahón is still a working port, it has a wonderful atmosphere with a unique character with a constantly changing scene of local fishing boats, which you can admire from the comfort of your private villa terrace or during an exciting Mahón boat trip. Whether day or night, you’ll never be without something to do in Mahón.
Close by the traditional port of Cales Fonts in Es Castell has a scenic waterfront walkway with authentic fishing huts transformed into wonderful boutiques, bars and restaurants and summer market stalls with beautiful handmade goods. You can also visit the small island situated in Mahón harbour, the Isla del Rey, where the historic buildings have been converted into the renowned Hauser and Wirth art gallery.
Mahón is also ideally located to explore the rest of the island. It only takes around 40 minutes or so to drive from one end of this small Spanish island to the other, making car hire a fantastic idea, although its best to pre-book a car with us at the time of booking your villa due to limitations placed on the number of cars allowed on the island. Once you have your car and a map of Menorca, you’ll be free to roam the island, visiting popular spots like Binibeca Vell, Ciutadella, Menorca’s zoological park or even the north’s fantastic golf course. You can also visit some of the island’s beautiful beaches, like Playa Arenal d'en Castell, Cala Mesquida and Playa Punta Prima.
The Mahón Harbour area is home to some of our most luxurious villa rentals in the Balearic Islands. This is especially true of the sought after area of Cala Llonga, with its spectacular views of boats and yachts crossing the port. Sant Antoni is a small village located on the opposite side of Mahón Harbour to the capital city and is another much sought after location in Menorca. This charming village offers visitors a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere, as well as easy access to the many attractions of Mahón. The traditional fishing village of Es Grau is also just a short way up the coast from Mahón Harbour and this charming destination offers visitors a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, as well as access to some of the island of Menorca’s most stunning natural scenery. One of the main attractions in Es Grau is its stunning beach, surrounded by a nature reserve.
